AMHERST MIDDLE SCHOOL REMINDERS
Please bookmark our school website. It is updated daily to include all current announcements. It also has the following information, plus lots more! The following is a brief outline of expectations. Please refer to the Student Handbook for specific policies.
Arrival to School: Students should not arrive to school prior to 7:00 am as there is no supervision. When dropping off your student(s) please drive up to the front of the building, keep in a single line, and be mindful of the students walking over from the bus loop when leaving the carpool line.
Tardies: The first bell is at 7:25 am. If you anticipate that your student will be late due to an appointment, please phone the absent line (673-8944 x1) and leave a message. Students not in their first period seat at the 7:30 bell will be considered tardy. All tardy students must report to the office upon arrival at school.
Absences: Please call the absent line (673-8944 x1) prior to 8:00am if your child is absent or tardy. Attendance is taken upon entering 1st period. We will call the parents if your student is absent and we have no message from home. Please do not call the nurse's office to report an absence.
Dismissals: If your child must be dismissed from school early due to an appointment which cannot be scheduled outside of school hours please have your child bring a note to the office prior going to the 1st period. The note should include the student’s name, time of early dismissal, reason for dismissal and a parent signature. Parents must come in to the office to sign the student out.
Buses: Bus routes are posted on the school website before the start of school. Please check for your bus route before the first day of school. If you have any questions, feel free to call the school or the bus company.
Bus passes: Students need a bus pass if they are taking a bus other than their regular afterschool bus or if they are taking their usual bus but getting off at a different stop. Notes must be turned in to the main office prior to going to 1st period and must include the following: Name of student, bus number, destination and signature of parent. We understand that on occasion, an email may be necessary, but the preferred method is to have a note with a parent signature.
Late Bus: The late bus leaves the middle school at approximately 4:05pm. The late bus is a shortened loop through town. Please refer to the website for specific stops. Students who wish to take the late bus must have a late bus pass from the teacher, coach, or advisor the student was staying after school with. The office will not issue late bus passes.
After School: No student is allowed to stay after school for any reason other than staying with a teacher, sport or in a supervised activity. The library is open until 3:45pm for any student wishing to stay after school. Loitering in the building is not allowed after school.
Cell Phones and electronics: All cell phones and electronic devices (including i-pods) must be turned off at 7:25am. They must remain off until school ends at 2:19pm. There is a phone in the office students can use in case of emergency. No photographs may be taken at any time during the school day or at school dances.
Visitors: All visitors must come to the office upon entering the school building.
Forgotten Items: If you come to the school to bring something for your student, please bring it to the office. Your student’s name will be put on the electronic message board. Your student will not be called out of class. It is your student’s responsibility to check the board and pick up the item.
