Souhegan Teacher Kathy Maddock Named “Student at the Center” Distinguished Fellow

SOUHEGAN HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER KATHY MADDOCK NAMED “STUDENT AT THE CENTER” DISTINGUISHED FELLOW

Souhegan, New Hampshire

AMHERST, NH//January 29, 2019 - Jobs for the Future’s Student-Centered Learning Research Collaborative has selected Kathy Maddock for demonstrated longstanding commitments to using student-centered approaches in their practice, who engage in the struggle for educational equity, and who believe in the power of research-driven classrooms and schools to improve student outcomes. Kathy is part of a new cohort comprised of educators deep in the day-to-day work of translating and using research in classrooms, schools, and communities.

 

Over the next two years, Maddock will work closely with researchers engaged in the Research Collaborative’s six active studies, as well as its cohort of youth researchers, communicating the impact of research-driven, student-centered practices in school, and designing projects that apply research in practice in their own schools.

 

Kathy Maddock is a social studies teacher at Souhegan High School, where she has taught for 20 years. For the past six years, Kathy has also served as coordinator for Souhegan’s senior project, a yearlong research-based project that serves as a graduation requirement.

In 2017, she was the state co-lead for the New Hampshire Performance Assessment for Competency Education work focused on capstone projects. She is also a research leader for New Hampshire’s Assessment for Learning Project in conjunction with her work around the revision of Souhegan's junior research project.
