As schools around the world lock down their buildings, we found a way to open our doors to our local community.
Amherst Makerspace is possibly the first adult Makerspace, to make use of a public school’s idle Industrial Arts resources, for the community.
In today’s world, school shop class is in decline. We are helping our school turn its old Industrial Arts program into a thriving Innovation and Design Lab for the kids during the day and an adult community Makerspace, in the evening.
Amherst Makerspace provides a large workshop space filled with all the tools and knowledge, to build or make anything you can think of. Open to all area residents, membership provides adults after school access to our 11,000 sf of space and all our tools. A family membership provides parents the ability to help their children work on their school projects. The proceeds help grow and support the school’s I&D program for the students. Open House is every Thursday 6-9pm, stop by and check us out.
