The Mont Vernon Village School Music Curriculum offers students a wide  spectrum of musical activities and is presented with instruction that is progressively challenging.  The students are encouraged through singing, playing instruments, music activities and creating music with musical instruments to inquisitively participate.

Music Theory is introduced with basic recognition in Kindergarten of music symbols and notes and then developed appropriately by grade level to reinforce music concepts with music activities, music games and interactive music programs on the Smartboard.

The study of all music styles and genres are presented with listening activities, historical facts and discussion.

Students are encouraged to experience Rhythmic Movement with the younger student moving while singing and with recorded music to refine their gross motor skills, and for the older student with introduction of basic dance steps.

Sound Science experiments are included in the music curriculum with students taking an active part in experimenting with sound waves.

The students use xylophones, glockenspiels, drums and rhythm instruments to accompany songs and various music activities and games. 3rd grade students will learn to play Recorders and students in Grades 4, 5 & 6 will learn to play the Ukulele.

The importance of music is quite evident here at MVVS, as each student enthusiastically presents a musical performance early in the school year at their annual Grandparents Day Program.

I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly MUSIC, for in the patterns of music and all the arts are the keys of learning”. PLATO
