The following methods of filtering content on the Internet that have been implemented:
SAU 39 issued devices (ex. Staff Laptops, Student 1:1 Laptops, etc.)
Lightspeed Systems:
- Lightspeed Systems is the current software that SAU 39 uses to filter the internet for inappropriate content.
- Filtering by Lightspeed Systems is only taking place on devices issued by SAU 39 to Staff and Students. Filtering will take place on these devices on and off campus.
- Because the school district accepts Federal funding we need to provide a level of web filtering that adheres to the Children's Internet Protection Act that the congress approved back in 2001. This all can be fond here: http://www.fcc.gov/guides/childrens-internet-protection-act
- Lightspeed Systems works through a client that is installed on the SAU 39 provided device. The users network login credentials that allow them access to the device are passed along to Lightspeed Systems, granting appropriate access to the internet based on polices set within the system.
SAU 39 Guest devices connected to the Guest Network (i.e. Mobile phones or tablets, Personal Laptops, etc.)
Barracuda:
If the computer or other device is not issued by SAU 39, these devices will be filtered through the districts Barracuda On-Premise Firewall:
- Barracuda's Content Filter has been configured to provide the same level of content filtering as Lightspeed Systems.
- No proxy's are installed by Barracuda as a guest. Your device will be filtered based on the IP addressed you will be assigned after connecting to the SAU 39 network.
