Amherst Middle School National Junior Honor Society Induction
On Monday evening, February 15, Amherst Middle School inducted 114 members to a newly formed chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). The 58 seventh graders and 56 eighth graders were welcomed to NJHS by members of Souhegan High School’s National Honor Society (NHS). Abbey Christensen, Souhegan’s NHS President, welcomed parents and students to the event. The candle ceremony celebrating the Society’s standards of scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship was conducted by other NHS officers and members. New NJHS members received membership pins from chapter advisors Ms. Maggie Kim and Mr. Tom Knapp and signed the Chapter Registry. The ceremony concluded with congratulatory remarks from Principal Porter Dodge.
Membership in the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a middle school student. Amherst Middle School’s newly established NJHS chapter seeks to bring the accomplishments of outstanding students to the attention of parents, teachers, peers, and the community. NJHS strives to recognize the total student, one who excels not only in scholarship, but also service, leadership, character and citizenship.
