To kick off Red Ribbon Week, Amherst Middle School hosted the TIGER program, Alex’s Story, for seventh and eighth grade students in the SHS auditorium. Alex’s Story is a program designed to help upper middle and high school students make informed, positive choices when it comes to drugs and alcohol.
Professional actress Teghan Kelly and Alex Berry presented the program which is based on the true story of a NH teen in recovery from heroin addiction, one of our nation’s worst drug problems affecting thousands of youth and adults throughout the country.
After Teghan ‘told’ Alex’s story, the ‘real’ Alex joined her on stage for a Q+A session. The students were clearly impacted by this powerful performance and had many thoughtful questions for the real Alex.
TIGER (Theater Integrating Guidance, Education and Responsibility) is a collaboration between the integrated arts and counselor education graduate programs at Plymouth State University.
Additional Red Ribbon Week events at AMS will include: creation and presentation of student/staff short video interviews; a school-wide door decorating contest; Wear-Red day, as well as other events.
