The annual Amherst Middle School Spelling Bee took place on Wednesday, January 13th and was a tremendous success! Three finalists represented each grade.
Grade 5: Elizabeth Bryson, Ashley Hardner, and Keagan Hitt
Grade 6: Siera Biddle, Taylor Ciotti, and Kayli Pike
Grade 7: Anna Goyette, Alexis Jordan-Pitas, and Austin Pollio
Grade 8: Lily Hipp, Noel Stoncius, and Daniel Trzepacz.
This very competitive group went twenty-one exciting rounds, a first for the bee. Fifth grader, Elizabeth Bryson, and eighth grader, Lili Hipp, competed head to head for ten of those rounds. Lily Hipp was declared the winner when she spelled the word pachyderm correctly.
The NH State Spelling Bee will be held in Concord, NH at the Capitol Center for the Arts on February 27, 2016, where all state school bee winners will compete in a written test in the morning to vie for the opportunity to participate to the verbal bee in the afternoon which will determine the NH State Spelling Bee champion. This champion will then go to Washington, D.C. in the spring to compete in the National Scripps Spelling Bee. Congratulations to Lily Hipp for being crowned our Amherst Middle School Spelling Bee Champion!
